Frequently asked questions
Vivi’s Cakery makes bespoke occasion cakes and a nine-flavour menu range to order in Liverpool, delivered locally. Menu cakes need 3days’ notice, bespoke cakes need a week or more, and every cake is made in a kitchen that handles all fourteen regulated allergens. The most common questions are answered below.
How far in advance do I need to order a cake?
At least 3 days for a cake from the menu. Bespoke cakes need longer — usually a week or more, and three weeks or more for a wedding cake with a consultation. We also limit how many cakes we take for any single date, so popular dates fill up; if your date is full the website will tell you at checkout rather than taking the order and letting you down.
Do you deliver, and where?
Yes — delivery is the only way we hand over a cake, as we do not offer collection. Local delivery costs £5.00 and covers 40 Liverpool postcode districts; the charge is added to every order. If your postcode is outside that list the checkout will say so before you pay. We do not post cakes by courier — a hand-finished cake does not survive a parcel network.
What does a cake cost?
Menu cakes start from the price shown on each cake's page, and the minimum order is £25.00. Bespoke cakes are quoted individually, because the price depends on the size, the design and how many hours the decoration takes. Tell us your budget when you request a quote and we will tell you honestly what is achievable within it.
Can you make a cake for someone with a food allergy?
What each cake contains is published on its own page and on our allergen page — every cake in the range contains wheat, egg and milk, and some contain soya or a named nut. Peanut cakes are made to order in the same kitchen on the same equipment, so we cannot guarantee any cake is free from peanuts or tree nuts, and shared surfaces mean we cannot guarantee any cake is free from any allergen. Read the declaration before you order and tell us about the allergy when you do. If your allergy is severe, please take that seriously. If we cannot make your cake safely we will say so rather than take the order.
How do I order a bespoke or custom cake?
Fill in the bespoke quote form with your date, the occasion, roughly how many people it needs to serve, your budget and any reference photographs. We reply within 48 hours with a quote and a payment link. Nothing is booked and nothing is charged until you accept the quote.
Can I cancel or get a refund?
Cakes are perishable and made to order, so the 14-day cancellation right that applies to most online purchases does not apply to them under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. In practice we are reasonable: cancel more than 7 days ahead and we refund what you paid less ingredients already bought; between 7 days and 48 hours we refund half; inside 48 hours the cake usually already exists. If a cake is faulty or not as described, your Consumer Rights Act 2015 rights are unaffected and we will refund or remake it.
What award has Vivi’s Cakery won?
Vivi’s Cakery won the Classic Cake category of Britain’s Best Cake 2026, awarded by British Baker. The winning entry was the chocolate ganache cake, which beat 110 entries at the 2026 awards in Birmingham. It is on the menu and you can order the same cake.
Can you copy a cake I have seen online?
We can work from a reference photograph and get close, but we do not produce identical copies — partly because every cake is piped by hand, and partly out of respect for other bakers’ original designs. Send the photograph with your quote request and we will tell you what we can do and what we would change.
How should I store my cake?
Keep it level, out of direct sunlight and away from heat. Refrigerate it if it contains fresh cream, and take it out about an hour before serving so the sponge and buttercream come back to room temperature — a cake straight from the fridge tastes flat and dense.
